Disciple Circle Meeting Guide
GATHERING
PRAYER / REFLECTION
Each gathering will begin with prayer, led by the
facilitator or someone whom the facilitator has asked in
advance. This may be a short reading of Scripture or
something relevant to the discussion, and would usually
include some silence for reflection or contemplation.
CHECK IN
An opportunity (very briefly) to let each other know
about things that are significant in your life, or simply
how you are doing. This is optional: it is OK if you prefer
not to share. Before sharing begins, a candle is
ceremoniously lit as a reminder that all that is shared is
said in the presence of Our Lord, and is to be held in
strict confidence; nothing should be discussed about
what is said except among the community members.
The check in concludes with the following prayer:
We stand before you, Holy Spirit, conscious of our
sinfulness, but aware that we gather in your
name. Come to us, remain with us, and
enlighten our hearts. Give us light and strength
to know your will, to make it our own, and to live
it in our lives. Amen.
DISCUSSION
RECAP
Discussion begins with a brief overview of topics
covered last time.
DISCUSSION
Each community member comes with topics they
would like to discuss, for example:
Things that are new, interesting, or intriguing
Things that are unclear (it is good to rely upon each other to clarify the lessons)
Challenges that might be present in applying the lessons to your present situation
Things that may have particularly excited you and that you would like to expand upon
One of the facilitators will keep notes and offer a brief
synopsis of the conversation – especially of questions
that might be further pursued.
SENDING
COMMITMENT
During a few minutes of silence, each member of the
community will be invited to think of an action step
through which they can apply what they have discerned.
You may wish to write this down in a place to review
throughout the week. The session is concluded with the
Daily Prayer of Apostolic Commitment:
Lord Jesus, I wholly commit myself to be your witness
in all that I do this day. Grant me the grace to see
others as you see them, the wisdom to judge with you
what is to be done, and the courage to act with you.
Bless my work that I may order all things as you
would have me, and bless, protect and keep safe all
those you have entrusted to my care.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
